ARM SEAL KIT , Model Name/Number: ARM SEAL KIT

  • (Customer Reviews)
Overview

An ARM Seal Kit is a specialized set of components designed to prevent hydraulic fluid leakage and protect the internal workings of an excavator's "arm" (also known as the dipper or stick) cylinder.

Because the arm is responsible for the heavy-duty pulling and lifting motions of the machine, these seals are built to withstand extreme pressure and constant friction.

Component

Function

Rod Seal

The primary barrier that prevents fluid from leaking out of the cylinder along the rod.

Piston Seal

Prevents fluid from flowing between the two chambers of the cylinder, ensuring power and movement.

Wiper / Dust Seal

Scrapes dirt, mud, and moisture off the rod as it retracts to prevent internal contamination.

Wear Rings

Guide the piston and rod, absorbing side-load forces and preventing metal-to-metal contact.

O-Rings & Backups

Static seals that prevent leaks between the cylinder head and the barrel.

Material Specifications

The kit is not made of one material, but a "sandwich" of polymers chosen for specific properties:

  • Polyurethane (PU): Used for Rod and Piston seals. It is the "muscle" of the kit, offering extreme abrasion resistance and high tensile strength.
  • Nitrile Rubber (NBR): Used for O-rings and Static seals. It is preferred for its excellent oil resistance and elasticity at lower pressures.
  • PTFE (Teflon) with Bronze Fill: Used for Piston rings and Buffer rings. It has an extremely low coefficient of friction to prevent "stick-slip" movement.
  • POM (Polyoxymethylene/Nylon): Used for Wear rings/Guide rings to prevent metal-to-metal contact between the rod and the cylinder head.

  • Buffer Seal Feature: Acts as a primary pressure absorber. It takes the "hit" from high-pressure spikes before they reach the main rod seal.
  • Secondary Rod Seal: Features a "twin-lip" design. The first lip wipes away oil, and the second lip ensures a bone-dry rod surface.
  • Exclusion Feature (Wiper): Usually metal-cased or double-lipped to physically scrape baked-on mud, ice, or asphalt off the rod.
